First XI
At Cutteslowe Park, Wantage got off to a flying start against the 1’s before Barkat (4 for 36) and Amit (3 for 32) reigned them in to 221 all out in the 42nd over. The Wolves made short work of the run chase with, 70’s from Chris Lynch and Tohsif, to knock off the total with nearly 12 overs to spare. Fantastic work!
Second XI
The 2’s were away at Broughton where they won the toss and elected to bat on a beautiful day. After some early losses, Babbs accessed his inner Boycott to rebuild and see off the tight opening bowlers, before Usman offered a masterclass in hitting to rack up 125 in only 2 balls more than Babbs’ 49. The Broughton innings started well, before their hopes were dashed on the rock of Sarosh (4 for 18). This was a match where catches really made the difference as Wolvercote held on to at least 5 grabs.
Third XI
At home to Banbury 4’s, the 3rd XI batted first and after a good opening stand of 37, lead by Shyju, suffered something of a middle order collapse to be 43 for four before ex-skipper Walsh rebuilt with an excellent 41 followed by a rearguard action that got them up to a competitive 166. Sadly, this was insufficient on another excellent Kennington batting track and Banbury lost only 2 wickets in the run chase.
Fourth XI
Away to Chearsley the 4’s bowled first and the opposition racked up 262 in their 40 overs. The 4’s did a great job in reply, led by Alex Beaumont (54) and Andrew Gant (36), but fell just 37 runs short when the overs ran out. Great effort and showed real fight.
