Last weekend saw the finals day for the 2022 Oxford Indoor League and Wolvercote emerged victorious! A full write up of finals day from Oxfordshire Cricket is available here. We look forward to taking part in the Oxfordshire finals day on Sunday 27th March.
Match report from Mo Shafqat:
Wolvercote CC secured its first silverware of the season. In the semi final we played against Oxenford. We won the toss and chose to field first. Oxenford were restricted to 98 off their 10 Overs. Special mention to Sahil Jamandas for his bowling and to Barkat for his brilliant last over in which he only conceded 4 runs, but more importantly we got 4 wickets. The other bowlers also played their part and in particular the fielding of Ayash helped to keep Oxenford to the par score.
The openers in reply did well laying a strong foundation and the rest of the order brought us home in the last over to seal a spot in the final. Top scores were Sahil, Mo and Potter.
In the final, Witney Mills opted to bat first, again Sahil and Barkat got us off to good start with only 18 off the first four overs. Mills made a bit of comeback to post 107 in their 10 overs.
In our reply, we had a second ball run out (let’s not apportion blame Chris P, but I still maintain there was an easy one there!!). Mo was joined by Sahil and both through some really good shots had a partnership of 70, with both batters getting to 25 each and retiring. The momentum was carried on by Barkat and Babbs through some excellent running, and deft placement. Wolves needed 33 off the last 3. Loss of Babbs dented the prospect, but Barkat with returning Sahil took it to 18 off 2. Two quick stumpings made it 6 needed off the last over, with last man standing. Mo got the runs with 2 balls to spare to secure the trophy.
Congrats to all, and in particular to the players who did so well over the last 7 weeks.
